Once
again, and unfortunately, Colombia begins
to fall into the hands of terrorism. This due to the fact that the
pressure put on crime has been reduced since the government of Juan
Manuel Santos took office. Many of Santos’ aids and followers
insist on the fact that he has continued to support Alvaro Uribe’s
policies, but in reality, this has not happened. Many of the blows given
to Farc in the last two years have been due to the policies
put in place by the Uribe Administration and not by Santos. Santos
clearly has made agreements with Colombia’s enemies and what’s behind
those agreements and their consequences we have yet to see.
Although, many would say that you don’t have to wait so long to see
what’s behind Santos’ agreements with Chavez and other enemies of
Colombia’s growth and peace since what’s happening now is more
than enough to show what those agreements have in mind for Colombia.
Colombia
is in the hands of terrorism because
once more Farc has been able to attack cities and towns in Colombia,
something that did not happened during Uribe’s government. Farc has been
able to regain control of areas in Colombia which were
guarded by the army and police. Although Santos was elected with Uribe’s
platform on security and many people believed he would continue the
path set by Uribe, Santos has governed with the people who
opposed Uribe’s government. This is extremely ironic, but as we know
politics is never a precise science. So as a result of Santos betrayal
to Uribe’s policies and voters, Colombia once again is
moving forward to the years in which governments were complaisant with
Farc, Eln and paramilitary groups and allowed them to proceed with their
criminal activity. Terrorism requires a strong hand and
Santos is not a strong President in security and other issues. He has
allowed others to govern the country and on top of all, he has allowed
the extreme left to regain power and control, so they can
continue to support Farc and their terrorist activities.
Recently,
Colombia’s foreign relations minister
visited Cuba in an effort to strengthen relations with the islands
regime. I wonder why a government that was elected with people who
oppose that regime and all the harm it has inflicted in
Colombia’s democracy would go and try to strengthen relations when it is
clear that Cuba supports Farc, Eln and their terrorist activities. It
makes no sense what Santos is doing, but I guess it is
clear what his agreements with Chavez and the left have implied for
Colombia.
Now
,we see how Farc is able to destroy entire
towns, kill innocent people, how Paramilitary groups are growing again,
how the main cities are in control of organized crime and nobody does
anything to stop it. When you ask the government, their
answer is that they are doing everything they can to avoid this from
happening, but apparently is not enough because crime is growing and
they seem to be waiting for the next hit. The worst thing is
that the FTA between the United States and Colombia requires cities and
the whole country to be secure, but with Santos, that is a reality far
from happening. Santos continues to govern with policies
that were not elected by the voters and worse, he was not elected
because people wanted him as President, and he was elected because
people had no other option. Otherwise, if Uribe had been on the
ticket or someone closer to Uribe’s policies, that person would have
been elected and not him. Santos’ treason to Uribe’s policies is clear
and his treason to those who elected him is clear
too.
Colombia
is at risk, and Santos seems to think
everything is ok. Colombia in the hands of crime and terror, and
apparently the Santos administration is more worried about stretching
hands with the Castro’s than putting an end to terrorism and a
peace treaty.
