9/11 a dark memory in American history

On the revolution of Ideas!

On September 11th we marked another anniversary of one of the darkest moment America and the world has been through. Although it shouldn’t be called an anniversary, since it’s not a celebration, it’s another year in which we remember those who lost their lives on that dark day on September 11th, 2001. I remember that I was getting ready to go to my morning class at my University on E-commerce Law when the attacks began. I was shocked to watch these airplanes strike the world center. At first I thought it was some kind of joke, after I thought it was an accident, but when I saw the second plane hit the towers I realized it was neither a joke nor an accident. This was for real. It was an event that would definitely change people’s lives forever.

Hundreds of people died on the fatal day, and until today the wounds from the horrific morning in New York are still open. As a result the United States went on a war against terror to pursue the ones responsible for the attacks, although initially the pursuit was headed on the wrong direction because Saddam Hussein was not the prime suspect, but yet we went after him instead of pursuing the suspected responsible person, Osama Bin laden. It took us almost 8 years to kill this man and the most ironic thing was that when we finally killed him, we didn’t show his face or body to the public, which was really absurd, but as always we had to assume that he was killed as the government told us.

Since the attacks many things have been done to honor the victims of 9/11. The memorial on ground zero of the world trade center is an example of this. It is essential that we honor the victims of 9/11 so we don’t forget the darkness that fell over New York that day and events such as those will never happen again. No power, no strategic thought, no religion is worth killing so many people under the pretext of achieving vengeance or world domination. It is necessary to honor their memories by making sure our system works, that we feel secure at home, and that we will never allow our security to fail again the way it did.

Many have suggested that the government knew about the attacks on September 11, also many have suggested that the attacks were self inflected based on credible evidence the government has refused to acknowledge. It is clear that many things that happen on September 11 have left many unanswered questions and the government’s official version does not answer all these questions. Whether you believe it was a conspiracy or you believe the government’s version for the events, the reality is that many people lost their lives and that we have to move forward. If the attacks were self inflected, then it is the most disgusting act I have ever seen. I can’t believe that government officials would in the name of a new world order kill thousands of people just to satisfy their thirst for power and then stand on the memorials saying they feel sorry for what happened. That’s so ironic, sinister and pathetic. On the other hand, if the events happened as the government has said,  justice has been done. Osama Bin Laden is dead and Alkaeda is weakened. The wars have almost destroyed America and its finances, but if things happened as some suggest, then the wars paid off and we are moving on the right direction.

All in all, whether we are safer today or moving on the right direction depends greatly on each person’s point of view. Many would say that we are not moving on the right direction and that the wars were not needed to kill Osama or to weaken Alkaeda. More intelligence and black operations were needed in my view, but I don’t make the decisions. Today it is a day to remember and hope for better things. What happened on September 11, 2001, it is in the past and we must move on. I just hope we find the path that puts us on the right direction and that those events never happen again.

May god bless those who died on that terrible day, may god bless and protect us all from the darkness that fell on America on September 11 2001.
