In recent days we have seen how even though NATO has tried to help the rebels in removing Kaddafi from power, this leader has managed to maintain himself in power. Kaddafi has continued to kill and massacre his own people in his effort to remain in power. Many efforts have been made to come to an agreement so this mad man leaves power without having to continue to kill people, or extending the conflict, which will mean grounds troops. For many sending ground troops maybe a solution for this conflict, but in reality that can be avoided if we support the rebels further and send heavy artillery into Libya with military advisors without having to get so much involved. Ground troops mean that many American lives will be lost because Kaddafi will not go without a fight.
This Libyan conflict has escalated up to a point that now as a result; gas prices have gone up to almost four dollars and fifty cents. This conflict which mainly affects European countries, which depend mainly on the oil that Libya produces, has affected oil prices in the United States as well. This is a real problem since it affects the economy, and the weak recovery the American economy is having. Now, these are reasons on our end to put this mad man out of circulation or to stop his reign, which up to date has only generated poverty and misery in its people, and the worse, it has killed those who think differently without any mercy. Now aside from the reasons which affect America and the world, the humanitarian reasons regarding the lives of the people who live in Libya are reasons to remove this man from power at once.
It is clear that Kaddafi has shown that it won’t be so easy to take him out, the offensive from the allies and NATO must grow stronger, but not in terms of sending ground troops, because that’s exactly what Kaddafi wants. NATO should continue to bomb Kaddafi head quarters, diminish his ability to send air strikes, missiles and other attacks on his people. Also the strong hand of the west should be applied with technology that guaranties that the conflict can be won without sacrificing more human lives. Another war would catastrophic for America, and that’s why it is NATO who has to continue with the fight, but America and the allies have to help with technology and heavy gun fire to support the rebels. This is a Libyan conflict and the international community should help the Libyan opposition in their effort to destroy Kaddafi, but not get involved with grounds troops from specific nations because that would only escalate the conflict even more and avoid this mad man from leaving power. If any troops should be sent, those troops should be the ones from NATO, and only NATO must continue to control the operations until a victory can be reached.
The rebels have a cause, and they should be helped, but the United States must not have a direct involvement. This would generate unnecessary problems that America doesn’t need now. Another war is not the answer, although Kaddafi is a threat to America’s national security, he must go without sending grounds troops. Kaddafi knows that would only help his cause due to hatred many Muslims have against the United States. Although I disagree with President Obama on many issues, I think that his position on not sending ground troops is the right one, and at all costs should keep this position. Kaddafi is not worth sending young Americans to die for a cause that is not Americas Cause.
Kaddafi is threat and he must go, but let’s send everything we’ve got to support the rebels. More is needed to help the rebels in their effort to win this conflict. I’m sure NATO, the CIA and many other agencies are doing everything they can to help in this crusade to take Kaddafi out, but There’s no way Kaddafi will leave his position if he feels he has a chance to win. it’s time to move forward and destroy Kaddafi for once and for all, but the rebels have to do this job and NATO’s involvement has to be stronger, otherwise is like going hunting without any ammunition.
Kaddafi must go at all costs, otherwise this conflict can become and endless one.
