Obama and his Wars

On the revolution of Ideas!

For the past decade The United States has been engaged in the war against terror. While the country is busy trying to destroy terrorists in countries very far away from the continental United States, the country is in need of resolving many social issues that have been left unresolved. President Obama, on his last Visit to Miami Florida spoke about his vision of the country and how he feels change can come about in America. His vision comes short though, since America is spending more today in wars around the world that ever before.
This can only mean that the country falls behind in technology, infrastructure and leaves the road open so that other countries take the lead in world dominance, and today it’s clear that even if you are a powerful empire, you cannot be engaged in so many conflicts at the same time. Being involved in so many conflicts only generates the fall of any powerful nation, and America is heading that way if nothing is done to change this. Obama promised is his campaign that Iraq would be over as soon as he would take office, Afghanistan would be the main objective and that Osama Bin Laden would be captured. Since then everything is still the same and we ask ourselves, what next?

Today none of those promises have been met, and all the United States Government is doing is getting involved in more conflicts that could only mean more spending. America is a country whose economical recovery is not so strong, and needs less spending from the central government in order to promote job creation and finally move forward in regaining the prosperity many Americans are seeking. Libya is now part of the list of conflicts America is now involved, and although the president has done the right thing by not sending ground troops and by keeping America’s involvement to a minimum, still, it’s a war that means money and more spending that America simply can’t afford.

As a result, a group of Americans who disagree with America’s involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan protested outside the Miami Dade College Campus in Downtown Miami where President Obama was giving a speech to many graduates of this south Florida College. One of the leaders of the protests is Sandy Davies who is a member and the local coordinator of the Progressive democrats of America organization in Miami. This organization focuses its attention is demanding from the US Government the immediate withdrawal of America from Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. The PD America.org also demands that military spending is cut so that those resources are spent in social programs and job creation so that the country can become a real nice to place to live, since according to Davies is not. The Tribunacolus interviewed Davies outside the Miami Dade College and he had some interesting thoughts on the wars America is now leading around the world. He explained why they were protesting and what needs to be done. In this article you will be able to hear the full interview and draw your own conclusions.

For the Tribunacolus it is clear that Obama has come up short on many issues and his horizon towards the 2012 presidential election will not be so simple especially because the president does not seem to have strong positions on the issues that got him elected. The immigration reform, job creation, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the economical recovery, making someone else’s war his, and the lack of leadership are some of the reasons that will make reelecting President Obama a bit difficult. It is clear, even for a 5 year old that military spending must be cut in order to push for economical recovery, to regain Americas dominance in infrastructure and technology. Otherwise China and other countries will take the lead and America will fall behind. Falling is behind is out of the question, but cutting military spending is not. You cannot be fighting at three different places at the same time because you will never win, and everything will be done half way.
Finally, many things have to be done and cutting military spending is one of them. Now, it is also clear that America can’t stop its fight against terror, but it has to be done in a more effective way. There are many ways you can win a war without having to get so involved. Obama and its wars are causing many problems, but it may even put an end to the president’s aspirations to a second term if he doesn’t take a strong position on this matter.
The wars must come to an end, but they must come to a strategic and intelligent end so that we don’t have unpleasant surprises after wards.

We thank Sandy Davies for his views on this critical issue.
